Every record, attachment, and note is encrypted with AES-128-CBC + HMAC-SHA256 before it touches disk. Your PIN derives the key via PBKDF2 — it is never stored. Lock the vault and the key is wiped from memory instantly.

Crypta Vitae never initiates a network connection. There is no account required, no cloud storage, and no telemetry built into the product.
Every record is encrypted on your machine before it is written to disk — a stolen database file is useless without your PIN.
When you back up your vault, the encrypted .cvault file is written to a folder you choose: a USB drive, an external disk,
or a cloud service already on your machine. The cloud provider sees only an opaque encrypted blob.
